Brighton Dog Beach

Your dog probably loves the beach just as much as you do, if not more. Just like seeing them retain lessons from training, seeing them run around on the dunes and play in the waves is also pure joy.

Victoria is home to some fantastic sandy play areas, but many of them are off-limits to dogs during the hot summer months because they need them to be on a leash or because they are only open during certain hours.

That's why we've compiled a list of the best beaches in the state, including New South Wales’ and Queensland’s best beaches, for you and your puppy to enjoy.

Dog-friendly beaches in Victoria

Brighton Dog Beach

The fully-fenced area at this beach is always a popular topic of discussion when discussing the best dog beaches. It is known for its ideal setup and is home to a diverse range of dogs, from large labs to small poodles.

If you want to give your pup the opportunity to interact with other dogs, this is the perfect location for you.

Port Melbourne | Sandridge Beach

Out of the two options available in Port Melbourne, Sandridge beach stands out as the superior choice. The beach on the west side of the suburb offers a great spot for dogs to play and is a top dog beach in Victoria.

Not only is it perfect for your pooch, but it also has amenities for the whole family such as barbecues and playgrounds close to the shore.

Mentone Beach

The section of Mentone beach that allows dogs to run free is located between Charman Road and Plummer Road.

The nicest thing about this site is its location; even if you don't bring your dog, it's a fantastic setting to spend the day in the summer and go for a swim with your canine paddling guest, making it one of Victoria's top dog beaches in 2021.

St. Kilda Harbour

Harbour Beach, located smack dab in the centre of St. Kilda's bustling seafront is a unique blend of urban and coastal life that welcomes four-legged friends.

One of the greatest dog beaches for dogs that want to socialise and play, as there are always a ton of other dogs, cyclists, and people to interact with.

Altona Beach | Burn’s Reserve

If your dog isn't yet comfortable swimming in the water, Altona's Burn's reserve is one of the best dog beaches in Victoria. At low tide, this beach turns into a shallow aqua-paradise for four-legged pals, and it is usually swarming with tourists and dogs of all shapes and sizes.

Beaumaris Beach | Rickett’s Point

Down near the yacht club end of Rickett's point, you can find some peace and quiet away from the dogs and other visitors.

This lovely tiny stretch of beach that wraps to the point features pristine views and rock pools for your dog to explore, making it a serious contender for finest dog beach in Victoria over the years and right up until 2022.

Sandringham Beach | Edward Street

There is a good stretch of dog-friendly beaches along Edward Street in this bayside neighbourhood, but be warned that it can get crowded during peak times.

Plus, the cliff at the point makes for some added privacy and windbreak.
